Topic #4: A Scary Experience You Have Had

In honor of Halloween, here is our topic for this week: Have you ever had a scary experience? Maybe you got lost in a new city, or you got really sick as a child. Have you ever almost been in an accident? I have had several scary experiences. Once, I was hiking in the mountains on a very narrow trail. The trail broke away, and we were stuck clinging to the side of the mountain. I thought I would fall to my death! Luckily, we worked together and helped each other climb the side of the mountain to a part of the trail that did not break apart. This was a very dangerous situation, but luckily we all survived! What about you? Have you ever had a scary experience? What happened?

Topic # 3: The Strangest Thing You Have Ever Eaten

When I was a child, I was a very picky eater. I would only eat typical American food, I hated fish and seafood, and I would never try new foods. All of this changed when I studied abroad in Egypt while in college. I had to try new foods, and to my surprise, I liked almost everything that I ate! Sometimes in the market I wouldn't know what I was eating, but I was always willing to try it. Since then, I usually will eat anything at least once. I've eaten frog legs, chicken feet, octopus, jelly fish, rabbit, mouse, and alligator. I must admit that I still won't eat bugs. While I was in Cambodia, the local people offered me giant fried spider, but I just couldn't eat it. Maybe someday I'll be brave and will eat bugs, but only if they are dipped in chocolate! How about you? What is the strangest thing you have ever eaten? Why did you eat it? How did it taste? Did you like it? Would you eat it again?

Topic #2: Your Dream Job

Many of you are here studying at ALP because you want to go to CSUF to study. Many of you plan to use your education to get a good job once you go home. For many people, the job that they will have in life is a good job, but it is not their dream job. For example, I love being a teacher, and I have always wanted to be a teacher. I enjoy working with students from around the world, and I love helping them achieve their goals. But if I could choose a dream job, I would want to be the host of a travel show. I love to travel, and I wish that I could visit all the countries in the world. If I had my own travel show, I would get paid to travel! I would be able to meet so many interesting people, see many amazing places, and try all different kinds of food. I also want to expose people in the US to the wonders that the world has to offer. So many Americans have never traveled abroad, and they have a very narrow world view. What about you? If you could choose any dream job, what job would you like to have? Why?
